“Char, like fire”
Char Luerlock is a Los Angeles-based, Arab-American author with a predominant focus in queer genre fiction. As a lifelong lover of experimental music, darkly-inclined art, and the strange, the surreal, the psychedelic, and the esoteric, he can typically be found in the many clubs and concert venues called home by the denizens of the city’s goth and rivethead communities, dancing with his partner and closest friends late into the night.
The Angeleno nightlife is his biggest muse, and remains a primary fixture of and influence within his creative works, alongside cult fiction, psychedelia, queerness, and 19th century American Transcendentalism. He received an associate’s degree in English from College of the Sequoias in 2018, a bachelor’s in English from UCLA in 2020, and completed his graduate work at CSUN in 2024.
His debut novel, Waxed and Feathered, was self-published through his imprint Syrette Press in December 2024, while his sophomore outing, Nights Burn Like Incense, is set to be released later this year, tentatively October 2026. Here on his website, you can find information about his past and future projects, where to purchase his novels, links to where he and his writing can be found across the web, and contact info!

Nights Burn Like Incense
Out October 31, 2026
Dark energies hang heavy in the hazy Los Angeles skyline.
An ominous tarot card, a heated argument, and a baggie of chili powder and hair precede the untimely death of club kid Mickie's boyfriend. Police quickly rule out foul play, but considering the weird vibrations as of late, Mickie's not so sure.
Meanwhile, former rock star Eris is homeless again. Experimental industrial band KV7 broke up half a decade ago, reducing the jilted front man to couch-surfing and reliving glory days through old Polaroids and drugged-out nostalgia.
A chance meeting between two individuals haunted by lost loves and mourning dilapidated dreams in the City of Angels leads to Mickie and Eris plummeting together into the LA underground in their search for closure, encountering promoters, plugs, punks, and party animals along the way.
